A manufacturing company now has a custom program to allow their drafting / design engineers the effective use of the same part number system already defined within their corporate manufacturing program.
Problem:
The company required a custom program to allow their drafting/design engineers the effective use of the same part number system already defined within their corporate manufacturing program.
  • Simplify the drafting process
  • Reduce the number of times the same part information was being hand entered into various systems
  • Streamline the system for increased efficiency
Solution:
An application that runs within the VBA environment in AutoCAD Mechanical and gives drafting/design engineers the ability to list inventory parts from within the corporate manufacturing program,“Visual Manufacturing”.
  • Quick part locating is provided by the ablity to query the inventory parts by:
    • Category
    • Item number
    • Description,
    • etc.
    • Preventing unauthorized users from gaining access and to restrict access to various areas of the program
  • Required part(s) can be selected and the then added to a drawing BOM inside the AutoCAD Mechanical drawing.
  • The completed drawing BOM can be written back to Visual Manufacturing for use by various departments such as:
    • Purchasing
    • Accounting
    • Etc.
We employed the following development tools:
  • VBA for AutoCAD Mechanical
  • VB6
  • Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Base
Result:
The program now gives drafting/design engineers the ability to list inventory parts from within the corporate manufacturing program. Originally written for the Edmonton Division it has since been rolled out to a second division in Vancouver, B.C.
